Keith A. Aleo

Keith A. Aleo has a multifaceted career as an performer, educator and administrator. He is the Director of Percussion at the Interlochen Center for the Arts, encompassing the Arts Camp, Percussion Institute, Adult Band Camp and the Interlochen Arts Academy. He is also a consultant for the Zildjian, Vic Firth and Balter companies.

His playing credits include the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra. He was a member of the percussion section of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra from 1989-2003, and a member of the percussion faculty at the University of Miami from 1994-2003.

His other teaching credits include The Boston Conservatory, The University of Rhode Island and the University of Connecticut.

His publications include Complimentary Percussion, Music for Multiple Metals and Advanced Etudes for Snare Drum. He was also a contributing editor for the Encyclopedia of Percussion Instruments, published by Garland Publishing.

He was a member of the Percussive Arts Society's Board of Directors and served on the Board of Overseer's at the New England Conservatory from 2004 - 2010. His awards include Chapter President of the Year for his work as president of the Florida Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society.

Mr. Aleo has given master classes and workshops on percussion instruments at numerous universities and conventions. Highlights have included the Percussive Arts Society State and International Conventions, PAS Journees de la Percussion in Paris France, the Paris Conservatory, the PAS Italian Percussion Festival in Fermo Italy, the Shanghai Conservatory, Tainan National University of the Arts and multiple Music Educator Conferences.


Anders Astrand

Mallet Artist, Clinician, Composer Åstrand is a renowned Swedish mallet specialist, considered to be a unique voice of both the marimba and the vibraphone.  
He is a popular and sought after soloist, regularly performing and giving master classes and clinics throughout the United States, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. Since 2017, Åstrand heads the contemporary music/improvisation class at Orford Music Summer Academy in Quebec, Canada.
Åstrand focuses on melodic and rhythmical improvisation, with influences ranging from jazz, Scandinavian folk music, Gregorian chants, and ancient Greek songs. He music
The element of improvisation is also an essential feature in his compositions. His commissions include compositions for percussion and chamber music ensembles, brass quintets, saxophone quartet, choirs, and big band. A more spectacular side features compositions for ice instruments for percussion ensemble, as well as using fighter aircrafts, snow trucks, and buildings as instruments to be played on. 
Åstrand’s music can also be found in multimedia performances including dance, video projections, ice instruments, and fire sculptures. His latest compositions include More Steps a duett for saxophones, flute, marimba, and vibraphone, and Spring Dance, a solo piece for marimba, vibraphone, and symphony orchestra, and premiered 2016 at the Busan Maru Festival, South Korea.
Anders Åstrand regularly collaborates internationally with various ensembles and groups. The Omnibus Ensemble (Uzbekistan) has premiered two of his pieces, Omnibus 17  and Next Move As a featured guest artist and mallet player Åstrand has toured both in Europe and South America with Pies En la Terra (Ecuador). 
He plays vibraphone in both Soundscape Orchestra and Firm roots.  Soundscape Orchestra is based on electronic and acoustic instruments. Just released  their first Album in November 2018. Åstrand also plays the vibes in the big band Ann-Sofie Söderqvist Jazz Orchestra, and can be heard on the albums Move.
The duo Vibes and Bass (Mikael Berglund, bass, Anders Åstrand mallets) has released two albums with original music, Seven Thoughtsand Frantelunia.
His own groups include WÅG (Mattias Wager church organ, Anders Åstrand mallets and percussion, Gary Graden vocals), Åstrand/Erlandsson Duo (Robert Erlandsson, double bass, Anders Åstrand mallets), and his percussion ensemble, Global Percussion Network, with which he has toured extensively in Sweden, Europe, the United States, and South Korea. 
Anders Åstrand regularly performs at PASIC (Percussive Arts Society International Convention). He functions as International Education Orchestral Consultant for Zildjian since 2008.

Nicola Carrara 

Nicola Carrara is the "Coprincipal Timpanist" of the "Danish National Symphony Orchestra".
He received his Master of Music from the "Royal Danish Academy" in Copenhagen and specialized in timpani with Wieland Welzel in Berlin.
Previously he graduated from the "L. Campiani" conservatory in Mantua with M° Loris Stefanuto.
In Denmark he collaborated as a percussionist and as a timpanist with the "Royal Danish Theater", "Copenhagen Philarmonic", "Odense Symphony Orchestra", "Malmö Symphony Orchestra", "Odense Symphony Orchestra" and
"Ålborg Symphony Orchestra".
He was also invited as Timpanist by the "Orchestra Nazionale di S.Cecilia" and by the "Teatro alla Scala".
Mr. Carrara works among others with conductors such as Fabio Luisi, Gianandrea Noseda, Herbert Blomsted, Marin Alsop, Antonio Pappano and soloists such as Leonidas Kavakos, Anne Sophie Mutter, Hilary Hahn, Daniil Trifonov and Barbara Hannigan.
Over the years he has played in various chamber music ensembles, including "Percurama" conducted by Professor Gert Mortensen and worked with composers such as Per Nørgaard, Áskell Másson and Unsuk Chin.


Edward Choi 

Edward Choi joined the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in 2004 and became Principal Percussionist in 2007.

Mr Choi has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, Toronto Symphony, Sydney Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Malaysian Philharmonic, Singapore Symphony, and the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra. As a chamber musician, he was a founding member of the Exit 9 Percussion Group, winners of the Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition.

He is originally from Canada and studied music at the University of Toronto, Northwestern University, and Rutgers University. Mr Choi holds a Doctorate in Musical Arts as well as a degree in English Literature. He studied percussion with Alan Abel, She-e Wu, James Ross, Michael Burritt, John Rudolph and Russell Hartenberger. As an educator, he has held teaching positions at Sookmyung Women's University, Kyunghee University, Hanyang University and Seoul National University in Korea. Mr Choi has taught clinics and masterclasses in Canada, the United States, Australia, Japan, and China. He has also served on the Symphonic Committee of the International Percussive Arts Society and has presented an orchestral clinic at the PAS International Convention in 2014.

Christophe Delannoy


Christophe Delannoy studies percussion in Paris with Francis Brana.He began his career as a percussionist with many ensembles such as the Orchestre National des pays de la Loire, the Orchestre de Picardie, l'Orchestre de Chambre de l'Ile de France. In 1996 he joined the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande as 1st percussionist, Snare drum Solo.He participates in many musical projects, Eklekto, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, Italian Swiss Orchestra. Christophe Delannoy has been teaching percussion at the Geneva High School of Music since 2008.

Peter Kates

Since 1994 Peter Kates has been the Percussionist with the Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester, Chairman of the Percussion Department at the Griegakademiet Institutt for Musikk and a member of the Nordic contemporary music ensemble BIT20.

Mr. Kates received his Bachelor of Music degree from The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and his Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School.

In New York, Peter has performed and recorded with several noted ensembles such as Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, New York Chamber Symphony, American Symphony Orchestra, Manhattan Philharmonic Orchestra, Mostly Mozart «Live from Lincoln Center» and the Music Today Series to name only a few. In Norway he has performed with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestras of both Stavanger and Trondheim.

As an educator and clinician, Peter Kates has held classes in orchestral performance and chamber music in both Europe and the USA. He interest in education led him to be a founding member of the Bergen Percussion Festival and the Virtual Music Technology Festival at the University of Bergen.

Mr. Kates currently serves on the Symphonic Committee for The Percussive Arts Societyand is a proud endorser of Zildjian cymbals and Pearl concert percussion



Jaume Santonja

Jaume Santonja is currently associate conductor of the Euskadiko Orkestra - Basque National Orchestra - and is a regular guest of the main orchestras in his native Spain: Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España - OCNE, Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana - OCV, Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife - OST, Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga, Real Filharmonía de Galicia, Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao, Oviedo Filarmonía etc.

Jaume is a former Assistant Conductor of the world-renown City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra - CBSO in the UK, and has appeared in front of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales - BBC NOW, the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Phion Orkest, Orchestra del Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano "LaVerdi", Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.

Highlights of this 21/22 season are his debuts with the Hong Kong Philharmonic - HKPhl, Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, Belgrade Philharmonic, and the visits to the concert seasons of Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano "LaVerdi", Euskadiko Orkestra, and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra - CBSO.

In June 2020 Santonja was selected among the four most promising young conductors to take part in the exclusive masterclasses with Iván Fischer and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam.

Jaume is the founder of the AbbatiaViva music collective and has also an activity as a music arranger and orchestrator, as well as a passionate composer for chamber music works.

As a player, Jaume was the principal percussionist of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra for a period of seven years and as a student was member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and the Verbier Festival Orchestra where he had the privilege to play under conductors such as Mariss Jansons, Daniele Gatti, Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Valery Gergiev, Pierre Boulez, Andris Nelsons, Zubin Mehta, James Levine, Charles Dutoit, Essa-Pekka Salonen etc.

Jaume has seen success at several conducting competitions. Holds a Master of Music (conducting) from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp (Belgium) a Master of Music (percussion) from the Amsterdam Conservatorium (the Netherlands) and a Bachelor's degree in music from ESMuC (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, Barcelona).
